'Paw Patrol' Toy Co. Gets Toon Ripoff Claims Trimmed
A California federal judge on Thursday trimmed a toymaker's suit alleging Viacom Inc. and toy manufacturer Spin Master Ltd. stole his idea for a team of talking rescue dogs with their "Paw Patrol" cartoon, saying federal copyright law preempted a Florida state law misappropriation claim against the toy company.

Canadian toy company Spin Master Ltd. urged a California federal judge Thursday to trim a toymaker's suit alleging it and Viacom Inc. ripped off his idea for a team of talking rescue dogs with their "PAW Patrol" cartoon, saying federal copyright law preempts his Florida misappropriation of idea claim.

Nickelodeon Inc. and parent company Viacom Inc. were accused in California federal court on Wednesday of infringing a toymaker's copyright and trademark for a team of talking rescue dogs when they broadcasted the cartoon "PAW Patrol," produced by a company that heard the toymaker's pitches.
