A New York federal judge on Monday hinted that he would likely impose sanctions on textbook publisher John Wiley & Sons Inc. for not complying with a discovery order in suits filed by National Geographic photographer Louis Psihoyos accusing Wiley of copyright infringement with respect to certain photos.

Textbook publisher John Wiley & Sons Inc. told a New York federal court Monday that it shouldn't have to turn over information regarding its use of photos by National Geographic photographer Louis Psihoyos that were not cited in his copyright infringement suit.

National Geographic photographer Louis Psihoyos and others have launched a fresh round of copyright suits against John Wiley & Sons Inc., accusing the textbook publisher of continuing a "deplorable history of infringing the copyrights of third-party photographers."
