Mich. Utility Will Spend $2B To Settle EPA Pollution Suit
Michigan utility Consumers Energy Co. said Tuesday it has agreed to spend more than $2 billion to upgrade or retire all 12 of its coal-fired operating units, settling the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's allegations that the company upgraded its facilities without meeting necessary emissions standards for sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
