Freddie Mac is dropping its $1.3 billion lawsuit against Deloitte & Touche LLP for the accounting firm's alleged complacency in the fraud and eventual collapse of mortgage lender Taylor Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corp., according to a short filing in Florida federal court on Wednesday.

Deloitte & Touche LLP can't escape a $1.3 billion lawsuit accusing it of complacency in the fraud and eventual downfall of mortgage lender Taylor Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corp., a Florida federal judge ruled Wednesday, finding that the Federal Loan Mortgage Corp. brought enough evidence to press for punitive damages.

Freddie Mac has expanded accusations that Deloitte & Touche LLP failed to flag the fraud that brought down Taylor Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corp., according to a complaint unsealed Monday that demands punitive damages on top of the $1.3 billion Freddie Mac allegedly lost.
