UBS Financial Services asked a Florida federal judge Wednesday to reassess its bid for a quick win on claims that a Hong Kong stock holding company had no grounds to force UBS into arbitration, saying the stock company misled the court regarding evidence of a business relationship between the parties.
A Florida federal magistrate judge on Wednesday rejected a request by UBS Financial Services Inc. to halt arbitration commenced by a Hong Kong stock holding company, saying a trial would be needed to determine whether the company was actually a customer with the right to arbitrate.
UBS Financial Services Inc. asked a Florida federal judge Friday for a quick win in its dispute with a company it claims was not a customer and therefore cannot compel it to arbitrate a dispute over an investment in a now-bankrupt special effects company.
