A little-known composer has apologized for bringing a lawsuit that claimed Hollywood soundtrack heavyweight Hans Zimmer lifted key parts of the score to "12 Years A Slave" from an earlier work, saying the suit was "misguided and mistaken."

A California federal judge on Friday pared down a composer's suit alleging that much of Hollywood soundtrack heavyweight Hans Zimmer's score to best picture winner "12 Years a Slave" was lifted from his own little-known musical work, tossing certain claims brought under the Lanham Act and foreign law.
