A Washington federal court has approved a deal to end a suit that accuses the federal government of failing to ensure that state environmental regulators had pollution controls in place to prevent excessive nutrient runoff from threatening aquatic life in and around Puget Sound.

A federal district judge Tuesday allowed a suit from an environmental group that claimed the federal government failed to force Washington state to control pollution runoff in coastal watersheds to move forward, refusing to dismiss most of the claims in the case.
