Sony Gets Plug Pulled On Melting TV Action

Law360, New York (July 11, 2011, 1:06 PM ET) -- Sony Corp. of America persuaded a California federal judge Friday to throw out a proposed class action accusing the technology titan of manufacturing a set of high-end televisions that posed fire hazards.

The suit claimed that overheating caused the chassis and internal parts of nine different Sony rear-projection televisions to melt, char and burn through normal use. According to an amended complaint filed in October, the proposed class would include tens of thousands of consumers nationwide whose aggregate claims would total more than $5 million....
