Law360, Washington (February 01, 2012, 8:18 PM ET) -- Old Republic International Corp. and several subsidiaries were hit with a proposed class action in California on Friday alleging they paid kickbacks to realtors for referrals of business for real estate settlement services, the latest in a spate of such suits.
The insurer has also actively concealed the kickbacks from consumers and federal and state regulators, according to Douglas Campion's complaint, which alleges violations of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and California's Unfair Competition Law and insurance code.
