Trucking Cos. Accused Of Hiding Price-Fixing

Law360, New York (August 27, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Several motor common carriers illegally pinched hundreds of millions of dollars from companies that ship cargo via trucks by conspiring to fix “fuel surcharge” prices in order to obtain further profit, said a putative class action filed on Thursday.

Charleston, S.C.-based Berle Enterprises Inc. and a subsidiary filed a class action complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. They used freight transportation services during the class period of the past four years and paid the allegedly illegal “fuel surcharges,” they said....
