Chattem Concealed Carcinogen In Dexatrim, Suit Says

Law360, New York (May 01, 2012, 1:55 PM ET) -- Drugmaker Chattem Inc. was struck with a putative class action Friday in California federal court accusing the company of falsely marketing its over-the-counter Dexatrim-brand weight loss pills as safe and effective while actively concealing a cancer-causing chemical ingredient.

A similar suit filed in Indiana federal court was dismissed in September for lack of standing, but the complaint lodged Friday by former Dexatrim user and California resident Joanne Arroyo alleges Chattem violated state statutes, including the Consumer Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law.
