Law360, New York (September 10, 2012, 8:01 PM ET) -- A California man claims Shell Oil Co. owes California customers at least $18 million in damages after illegally recording phone calls to its central call center and violating state privacy law, according to a proposed class action removed to federal court Thursday.
Between June 2011 and June 2012, nearly 3,000 California residents placed calls to Shell’s Manila, Philippines, call center and were “surreptitiously” monitored and recorded without their knowledge, and in violation of California wireless communication privacy law, plaintiff Tuan Nguyen alleges.
