Law360, New York (October 22, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A West Virginia jury has ordered DuPont to pay $196.2 million in punitive damages, thus ending a four-part trial in which the chemical company was accused of contaminating the area around a former zinc-smelting plant and then lying about the health risks.
In a decision reached Friday, the Harrison County Circuit Court jury convicted DuPont of “wanton, willful and reckless conduct,” according to the Associated Press.
For its part, DuPont said it had been deprived of a fair trial, and that it would appeal the case...
