NOV Says Employee Took Rival's Bribe To Steal Design

Law360, Houston (October 04, 2012, 8:32 PM ET) -- National Oilwell Varco LP launched a suit in Texas state court Thursday, alleging one of its workers violated his employment agreement when he accepted a bribe from a competitor to build a knock off of a piece of proprietary equipment.

The oilfield services company claims Ceram-Kote Inc. President Kevin Freeman paid an NOV employee $40,000 to build a copy of a blast unit designed to clean the insides of drilling pipes that is now being used in Ceram-Kote's ceramic coating operations.
