'Avatar' Was James Cameron's Idea, Judge Rules In IP Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (February 05, 2013, 3:44 PM ET) -- There is “undisputed evidence” that director James Cameron independently created the blockbuster film "Avatar," according to a California federal judge, who on Thursday threw out a breach of contract suit by a man claiming his ideas were stolen to create the film.

Thursday’s order brings an end to visual effects designer Gerald Morawski’s 2011 lawsuit alleging Cameron and his film production company, Lightstorm Entertainment Inc., created "Avatar," the highest-grossing movie of all time, using ideas from Morawski’s “nearly identical” motion picture project called “Guardians of Eden,”...
