Jim Beam Maker Hit With $100M Suit Over Whiskey Contract

Law360, Los Angeles (March 01, 2013, 6:52 PM ET) -- A whiskey importer hit Beam Inc. with a $100 million lawsuit in New York federal court Friday, alleging that the U.S. maker of Jim Beam and Canadian Club as well as its Cooley Distillery unit breached a contract in order to rid the market of Michael Collins Irish Whiskey.

Sidney Frank Importing Co. Inc., based in New Rochelle, N.Y., claims that Beam and Cooley schemed to cut it off from its “only available source” for Michael Collins whiskey, which has won awards.
