Sports Direct Sent To UK Competition Commission

Law360, New York (August 07, 2009, 2:41 PM ET) -- The U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading has referred Sports Direct International PLC to the U.K. Competition Commission, recommending a probe after the sports equipment retailer failed to remedy competition concerns raised by its purchase of more than 30 stores from a rival.

An OFT investigation launched earlier in 2009 found that Sports Direct's acquisition of 31 stores from its chief U.K. rival JJB Sports PLC sparked competition concerns in five areas where Sports Direct already had stores.
