Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 3:42 PM ET) -- A federal judge has rejected claims that Universal Studios Home Entertainment LLC misused its copyright and interfered with contracts between Redbox Automated Retail LLC and its suppliers, but allowed the DVD kiosk operator's antitrust allegations to move forward.
Judge Robert B. Kugler of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware found Monday that Coinstar Inc. subsidiary Redbox had sufficiently alleged that Universal orchestrated a vertical boycott to keep distributors from selling Universal's DVDs for use in the low-cost rental units.
