NCAA Slams Antitrust Suit Over Athlete Licensing

Law360, New York (October 14, 2009, 3:14 PM ET) -- The National Collegiate Athletic Association has asked a judge to drop a class action filed by former college athletes alleging the NCAA’s policy of forbidding student-athletes from receiving money for the use of their images in the multimillion-dollar college sports industry is a violation of U.S. antitrust law.

The NCAA and Collegiate Licensing Co., also named as a defendant, filed motions to dismiss the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday.
