Law360, New York (October 27, 2009, 2:57 PM ET) -- As Congress moves to roll back antitrust exemptions for health insurers, a new report from the Congressional Budget Office is casting doubts on Democrats' claims that new enforcement will increase competitiveness and lower premiums across the industry.
In a cost estimate for the Health Insurance Industry Antitrust Enforcement Act released Friday, CBO officials said they could not yet determine whether private health and medical malpractice insurers' premium costs would go up or down, but that “the magnitude of the effects is likely to be quite small.”...
