Leahy Revives Insurance Antitrust Exemption Repeal

Law360, New York (May 05, 2010, 4:39 PM ET) -- Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., on Wednesday revived efforts to repeal the health insurance industry's exemption from antitrust laws, introducing an amendment to pending financial reform legislation to reverse the decades-old exemption.

In a floor statement introducing the amendment, Leahy told his colleagues working on reforming Wall Street that “there is another industry that is not required to even play by the same rules of competition as everyone else.”
