EU Cartel Settlements May Fast-Track US Actions

Law360, New York (May 27, 2010, 6:56 PM ET) -- While last week's DRAM price-fixing settlement highlighted the benefits to companies for cooperating with the European Commission's cartel enforcement process, antitrust experts have cautioned that companies considering settling with the EU antitrust watchdog risk accelerating private antitrust actions in other jurisdictions, including the U.S.

The May 19 settlement marked the first use of the EC's 2008 settlement procedure, which gave nine memory chip makers a reduction in their price-fixing fines in exchange for an admission of liability.
