Carrefour Marinopoulos Fined €12.5M For Price-Setting

Law360, New York (July 15, 2010, 1:46 PM ET) -- Greek retail giant Carrefour Marinopoulos SA is facing a €12.5 million ($16.1 million) fine for imposing resale price restrictions among members of its franchise network in violation of European Union competition laws, Greece's antitrust regulator announced Thursday.

The Hellenic Competition Commission said it launched an investigation into alleged wrongdoing by Carrefour Marinopoulos — a joint venture between the Greek Marinopoulos Group and the French Carrefour Group — after receiving complaints from several operators of 5' Marinopoulos stores, the retailer's 107-store convenience-level chain.
