Novartis Offers EU Antitrust Fixes For Alcon Merger

Law360, New York (July 22, 2010, 4:14 PM ET) -- Novartis AG has offered antitrust commitments to the European Commission as it reviews the pharmaceutical giant's bid to take over eye care specialist company Alcon Inc.

The companies submitted proposed remedies to the competition regulator July 16, which pushes the deadline for review to Aug. 9.

Neither the watchdog nor the companies have indicated what types of concerns the commission has regarding the deal. EC spokeswoman Marisa Gonzalez Iglesias confirmed that the commission had received the proposal but declined to comment further.
