American Hits Orbitz, Travelport With Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (April 13, 2011, 2:08 PM ET) -- American Airlines Inc. filed an antitrust suit Tuesday in Texas alleging Travelport Ltd. and Orbitz Worldwide LLC retaliated against the carrier’s bid to compete in the airline booking business.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, American claims that Travelport, which operates global distribution systems that issue airline fare, flight and availability information from airlines to travel agents, is threatened by American’s new AA Direct Connect system and has engaged in anti-competitive behavior.
