DOT Approves Delta-Virgin Australia Alliance

Law360, New York (May 10, 2011, 4:45 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation gave Delta Air Lines Inc. and Virgin Australia Airlines tentative approval Tuesday to form a trans-Pacific alliance, reversing its earlier recommendation against the carriers' proposal to coordinate flights between Australia and the U.S.

In September, the DOT concluded that Delta and Virgin Australia, formerly Virgin Blue, had not shown the alliance would provide sufficient public benefit to justify a grant of antitrust immunity.
