11th Circ. Puts $195M Hospital Merger On Hold

Law360, New York (July 07, 2011, 3:14 PM ET) -- The Eleventh Circuit on Wednesday temporarily blocked Phoebe Putney Health System Inc. from buying Palmyra Park Hospital Inc. in a planned $195 million deal, granting federal antitrust regulators their request for an injunction.

The Federal Trade Commission asked for the order after U.S. District Judge W. Louis Sands tossed its challenge of the proposed acquisition in June, ruling that Phoebe Putney could not be held liable for alleged antitrust violations because it was working on behalf of a state government agency, the Hospital Authority of Albany-Dougherty...
