AstraZeneca Settlement Has Consumer Class Split

Law360, New York (June 08, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- U.S. consumers who agreed to a $24 million settlement with AstraZeneca in a long-running battle with pharmaceutical companies over wholesale drug prices are now fighting one of their own, who has argued the class could get a better deal.

Lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the multidistrict litigation have argued that the objections of class representative Joyce Howe display a “fundamental misunderstanding” of the settlement's terms and are driven chiefly by her attorney's “self-interest.”
