Merck Reaches $24M Deal To End Mass. Medicaid Suit

Law360, New York (December 20, 2011, 6:55 PM ET) -- Merck & Co. Inc. has agreed to pay $24 million to settle the state of Massachusetts' Medicaid fraud claims, making it the 13th and final company to resolve the allegations, the state's attorney general said Tuesday.

The settlement from Merck and generic-drug subsidiary Warrick Pharmaceuticals Corp. brings the recovery from the False Claims Act litigation to more than $47 million, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said. The $24 million deal represents the largest-ever single payment to the state for a Medicaid fraud case, she said....
