Texas Court Kills Antitrust Case Against Exxon Affiliate

Law360, New York (April 02, 2012, 6:50 PM ET) -- Landowners in the Barnett Shale region of Texas lack standing to sue Exxon Mobil Corp. subsidiary XTO Energy Inc. for reducing competition by walking away from lease terms proposed before the natural gas market tanked, a Texas appeals court ruled Thursday.

The unanimous opinion dismissed all claims against XTO and upheld a lower court’s ruling that the energy firm was free to back out of deals it proposed but never executed.
