Law360, New York (May 09, 2012, 3:53 PM ET) -- The Netherlands on Tuesday adopted net neutrality legislation preventing Internet providers from interfering with user activity, becoming the first European country to enact net neutrality provisions and only second in the world after Chile.
The new Dutch law requires all data be treated equally, stopping Internet providers from blocking or slowing down any applications or services. The legislation includes an anti-wiretapping provision as well, banning the government and providers from using any deep packet inspection technology to spy on users.
