Google Wants De Facto Essential Patents Added To Table

Law360, New York (July 20, 2012, 11:29 PM ET) -- Google Inc. has asked lawmakers working on patent reform to add patents that are essential to de facto industry standards to the conversation about standard-essential patents, a move that could help Google in its patent litigation with Apple Inc.

In a letter sent to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month, Google general counsel Kent Walker said the same analysis for standard-essential patents should apply to those patents that are widely adopted among competitors and become essential to vie for customers in the market....
