B&N, Independent Bookstores Look To Fight DOJ E-Book Deals

Law360, New York (August 01, 2012, 7:25 PM ET) -- Barnes & Noble Inc. and an independent booksellers group joined forces Tuesday to fight the U.S. Department of Justice's settlements with three publishers in the e-book price-fixing litigation, accusing the government of forgoing its trust-busting mission to regulate the entire publishing industry.

The DOJ's proposed settlements with Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers LLC and Simon & Schuster Inc. are not "run-of-the-mill" anti-collusion orders but instead seek remedies far beyond what the antitrust watchdog asked for in its complaint, Barnes & Noble and the American Booksellers Association...
