UK Competition Watchdog OKs BSkyB Movie Service

Law360, New York (August 02, 2012, 6:09 PM ET) -- British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC's strong position in the U.K.'s pay-TV movie market isn't anti-competitive, the country's competition watchdog said Thursday, citing increased consumer choice from new media players like Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc.

The Competition Commission confirmed earlier findings that Sky Movies' dominance in first-run Hollywood movies didn't give it the unfair advantage that it once might have, thanks mainly to consumers' increasing preference for Internet-based content providers like Netflix's streaming service and Amazon's Lovefilm.
