Court Kills TV Giants' Online Venture Over Cartel Worries

Law360, New York (August 08, 2012, 2:50 PM ET) -- A German court on Wednesday scuttled plans by broadcasters ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG and RTL Television to proceed with their launch of an online video platform, upholding a regulator's concerns about the venture's antitrust implications.

The Germany Federal Cartel Office said the Higher Regional Court in Dusseldorf upheld the regulator's 2011 ruling barring the media companies from establishing their online platform as a response to the companies' failure to allay concerns that the joint venture would only reinforce the companies' market dominance.
