Cuomo Says No To Weaker Kickbacks Law For Health Referrals

Law360, New York (October 04, 2012, 3:45 PM ET) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday vetoed a bill to bring New York's health referral anti-kickback law in line with federal law, saying the legislation would weaken Empire State rules prohibiting referrals between practitioners with financial relationships.

Sponsored by New York City Democrat Richard N. Gottfried in the state Assembly and by Long Island Republican Kemp Hannon in the state Senate, the bipartisan measure would have brought Empire State law into conformity with the federal Stark Law, which limits certain types of physician referrals.
