Cos. Seek To Skirt Iraq's $10B Suit Over Oil-For-Food Scheme

Law360, New York (October 26, 2012, 9:51 PM ET) -- Iraq cannot bring its $10 billion lawsuit against multinationals that allegedly helped Saddam Hussein steal money via the Oil-for-Food program, the companies argued Friday, saying he was the legal representative of the country during the corruption.

Iraq is still Iraq even though its leadership has changed — and new leaders cannot hold others accountable for the corruption of the old regime, a lawyer for several Siemens AG units told a federal judge at a three-hour hearing in Manhattan.
