Maryland Tax Lien Agent Pleads Guilty To Bid-Rigging

Law360, New York (June 03, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- A Maryland tax lien agent has agreed to plead guilty to bid-rigging auctions in several Maryland counties and to pay a $750,000 criminal fine, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors filed a one-count felony charge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland Tuesday, charging Steven L. Berman with participating in a plot to rig bids submitted to cities and counties in Maryland for tax liens.

The plea agreement still must be approved by the district court.
