Law360, New York (June 27, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- The European Commission on Wednesday mulled the proper way to deal with a probe into airline price-fixing of surcharges on air cargo shipments.
At an EU hearing about cartel enforcement, the commission discussed the importance of the aviation sector to many countries, and how recognizing their importance reconciled with antitrust rules around the world.
It found that three main alliances account for 60% of the world's total airline capacity, with unaligned legacy carriers filling up 30% and low-cost airlines rounding off the last 10%.
