Law360, New York (August 14, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Regulators have opened a probe into the proposed merger of pulp mill equipment suppliers Metso Corp. and Aker Kvaerner, alleging that the deal would drastically limit competition in the industry.
Finnish company Metso has made a €335 million offer to purchase Norwegian plant owner Aker Kvaerner in an effort to better address the demand for pulp mill equipment and services in South America and Asia.
But the European Commission has expressed concern that the takeover would limit competition in the already-concentrated field.
