Belgian Antitrust Authorities To Probe AB InBev

Law360, New York (April 20, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Belgium's antitrust authority will reportedly investigate whether AB InBev is abusing its market position to delay payments to suppliers, following a request by Economy Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne.

“We must see whether malt producers, the suppliers of brewer AB InBev, are in a position that they have no other option,” Van Quickenborne told Belgian broadcaster VRT, according to Reuters. “If that's the case then it could be abuse of a dominant position.”

Representatives for Anheuser-Bush, AB InBev's American subsidiary, could not immediately be reached for comment....
