EEOC Targets SBC In Religious Discrimination Suit

Law360, New York (October 02, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has brought a discrimination suit against Southwestern Bell Telephone LP, which conducts business as AT&T Southwest and SBC Communications, for allegedly firing two of its employees who are Jehovah’s Witnesses because of their religious beliefs.

The EEOC lodged the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas on Sept. 28, claiming that SBC Communications refused to allow employees Glenn Owen and Jose Gonzalez to take leave for one day so they could attend their religious convention....
