Law360, New York (May 03, 2010, 4:37 PM ET) -- The Illinois General Assembly has approved changes to the state's whistleblower protections in the wake of the Obama administration's efforts to clamp down on Medicare fraud by strengthening the federal False Claims Act.
The amendments to Illinois' Whistleblower Reward and Protection Act in House Bill 5951 cleared the Illinois Senate unanimously Thursday and was sent on to Gov. Pat Quinn's desk.
The bill contains provisions that make penalties for violations of the state's False Claims Act remedial instead of punitive.
