DOL Releases Guidelines On Breaks For Breastfeeding

Law360, New York (July 22, 2010, 4:13 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Labor has issued a fact sheet to provide general information on an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act that requires employers to provide unpaid break time for nursing mothers.

The DOL's Wage and Hour Division released the fact sheet July 15 to provide guidelines because the health care reform law passed into law in March amended Section 7 of the FLSA to introduce the requirement that employers permit nonexempt working mothers break time to express milk.
