Raytheon On Hook For Retiree Benefits: 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (September 10, 2010, 6:38 PM ET) -- A federal appeals court has backed a lower court’s determination that defense contractor Raytheon Co. must repay millions of dollars in health care insurance premiums it charged a class of workers who took early retirement.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Tuesday found that the company’s agreement to keep paying premiums until retirees and their spouses turned age 65 survived the expiration of collective bargaining deals and could not be terminated, but also sided with the lower court’s rejection of the plaintiffs’...
