NY Economist Rejects GOP 'Job Killer' Attack On Wage Hike

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 6:09 PM ET) -- Boosting the minimum wage in New York to from $7.25 to $8.50 per hour would generate 7,500 jobs, a policy expert predicted Monday, rejecting as "simplistic" a top Empire State Republican's concern that such legislation would be a "job killer."

At a meeting in Harlem held by Democrat Keith Wright, who chairs the Assembly's Labor Committee and sponsors Albany's current wage hike bill, economist James Parrott of the nonpartisan Fiscal Policy Institute said the notion that higher wages cost jobs is based on flawed logic....
