Law360, New York (May 04, 2012, 10:52 PM ET) -- A Jackson County, Mo., jury on Thursday handed $5 million in punitive damages to a woman who accused AT&T Inc. of discrimination for firing her her after she converted to Islam and began wearing a hijab to work.
The jury found in favor of Susann Bashir, who claimed that she had suffered workplace hostility for several years after she converted. She was also awarded another $120,000 in lost wages and damages, according to Circuit Judge J. Dale Youngs' jury trial order.
