Law360, New York (January 02, 2013, 9:40 PM ET) -- The number of criminal trade secrets cases is set to rise now that lawmakers have passed bills expanding the scope of the Economic Espionage Act and increasing penalties for violations, but the legislation could also spur Congress to give companies a right to file civil suits when their secrets are stolen, attorneys said Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that boosts the maximum fines for violating the EEA, following Senate approval Dec. 19.
