$4M Patriot Coal Deal Will Trim Retiree Health Benefits

Law360, Chicago (April 23, 2013, 8:05 PM ET) -- Patriot Coal Corp. said Tuesday that it has inked a $4 million settlement with its nonunion retirees on trimming their health care benefits, though a larger battle over benefit cuts remains between the bankrupt company and its union workforce and retirees.

The nonunion retirees’ medical benefits will terminate at the end of July and be replaced by a voluntary employee benefits association, according to a proposed order posted on Patriot’s bankruptcy website, which a company spokesman confirmed to reflect the terms of a settlement.
