Specialty Hospitals To Pay $4.2M To End False Claims Suit

Law360, New York (November 04, 2013, 12:48 PM ET) -- Specialty Hospitals of America LLC will pay $4.2 million to the federal government to settle a whistleblower's allegations that it inflated Medicare claims at its hospitals in Washington, D.C., federal prosecutors announced Friday.

Prosecutors had accused Specialty Hospitals, which operates several hospitals and health care facilities in the capital, of filing a cost report in May 2008 that it knew had inaccurate revenue and expense data, which inflated its cost-to-charge ratio and led to government overpayment on some claims from 2007 to 2009.
